Bengaluru’s growing commitment to environmental conservation and healthy living was on full display as nearly 3,000 people participated in the inaugural Bengaluru Lake Run connecting Jakkur and Rachenahalli lakes on Sunday.
Organised as part of Environment Day celebrations under the supervision of minister and Byatarayanapura MLA Krishna Byre Gowda, the event brought together citizens, environmental enthusiasts, runners and families for a unique initiative combining fitness with ecological awareness.
Run highlights Bengaluru’s lake ecosystems
Set against the scenic backdrop of Jakkur and Rachenahalli lakes in north Bengaluru, the event aimed to encourage citizens to reconnect with the city’s water bodies while promoting the importance of protecting urban ecosystems.
Organisers said Bengaluru’s lakes are not only vital for groundwater recharge and biodiversity but also serve as valuable public spaces that enhance community well-being.
Participants ran through carefully planned routes around the lakes, enjoying the natural surroundings while supporting the message of conservation.
Event welcomes participants of all ages
The main attraction was the 10-km Bengaluru Lake Run, which drew fitness enthusiasts and seasoned runners from across the city.
To ensure wider participation, organisers also introduced the ‘Majaa Run’, featuring both timed and untimed 3.5-km categories. The shorter format enabled children, senior citizens, families and first-time runners to take part comfortably.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with runners displaying determination, energy and community spirit throughout the morning.
Promoting sustainability through public engagement
Krishna Byre Gowda joined participants during the event, reinforcing the importance of citizen involvement in protecting Bengaluru’s natural assets.
Organisers said the run was designed not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to create awareness about lake conservation and sustainable urban living.
With a strong turnout and positive response, the Bengaluru Lake Run is expected to become a regular feature in the city’s environmental calendar, inspiring more residents to take an active role in preserving its lakes and green spaces.
