Bengaluru: Three young men were killed in a road accident in the early hours of Sunday after their speeding car rammed into the rear of a moving truck near Agara Cross on Kanakapura Road, police said.
The deceased have been identified as Saif Pasha (22), a resident of Tilaknagar, Yusuf Khan (22) from Jayanagar 1st Block, and Azhar Khan (22), a resident of Bismillah Nagar.
According to officials from Kaggalipura Police Station, the accident occurred around 1.15 am when the trio was travelling towards Kanakapura in a Mitsubishi Cedia car.
Speeding suspected as primary cause
Preliminary investigations indicate that the car was being driven at a high speed at the time of the accident.
Police said the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle after crossing a road hump while driving at excessive speed. The vehicle then crashed into the rear of a lorry moving ahead on the road.
The collision was extremely severe due to the high speed of the car.
Officials said the impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, with the front portion of the car getting completely mangled.
Victims suffered fatal injuries
Police said one of the youths died on the spot due to the severity of the crash.
The other two victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by local residents and emergency responders. However, doctors later declared them dead after they succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities said the bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination before being handed over to the families.
Police register case
Kaggalipura police have registered a case of accident caused by negligent and rash driving.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
Police are also examining whether other factors such as road conditions or visibility may have contributed to the accident.
Concerns over speeding on highways
Road safety experts have often highlighted speeding as one of the major causes of fatal accidents, especially during late-night hours when traffic levels are relatively low.
Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to follow speed limits and exercise caution while driving, particularly on highways and busy arterial roads.
The accident has once again raised concerns about reckless driving and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
