Bengaluru: A 52-year-old tollway staffer, Manjunath P, was killed and two others injured on Bengaluru’s Electronics City elevated road after a speeding pickup van hit them while they were towing a vehicle late Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 11:30 PM when Manjunath and his colleagues, Rajanna and Satish, were attending to a broken-down vehicle on the flyover. According to a police officer, “Rajanna, Satish, and Manjunath, all tollway staffers, received a call about a vehicle breakdown on the flyover.” While Rajanna and Satish were busy towing the vehicle, Manjunath was directing traffic.

A speeding Mahindra Bolero pickup truck struck Rajanna and Manjunath. Satish managed to jump to the other side, escaping injury. Manjunath, however, was critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, the police officer reported.

Manjunath had joined the night shift after spending the morning inviting guests to his daughter’s wedding, scheduled for August 10. The Hulimavu traffic police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
