Bengaluru: Traffic movement in several parts of Bengaluru is expected to be severely affected on Sunday, May 10, in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public gathering near the HAL Airport area and later attend the 45th anniversary celebrations at the Art of Living International Centre.
In anticipation of heavy movement of VIP convoys and public gatherings, the Bengaluru Traffic Police has announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions across multiple routes in the city from 5 am to 3 pm.
Restrictions near HAL Airport
Traffic police stated that movement of all vehicles will be prohibited on certain roads surrounding the HAL Airport area during the restricted period.
The affected stretches include the HAL Airport Exit Road from Old Airport Road up to the DGCA Office on both sides and the HAL Airport Gate No 30 Road from Umbrella Junction up to Gate No 30.
Authorities have also prohibited parking on several important stretches including Old Airport Road between SD Road Junction and Trinity Junction, HAL Gate No 30 Road and the Airport Exit Road.
Police said the restrictions are necessary to facilitate smooth movement of official convoys and ensure security arrangements during the Prime Minister’s programme.
Parking arrangements for public visitors
The Bengaluru Traffic Police has announced separate parking arrangements for members of the public attending the event.
People arriving from the Marathahalli and Whitefield side have been instructed to drop passengers near Gate No 2 on Airport Exit Road before 8.30 am. Vehicles should then be parked at the Sir M Visvesvaraya College Ground in Murugeshpalya.
Visitors approaching from the city side have been advised to drop passengers opposite Gate No 2 before 8.30 am and park vehicles at the HAL Bus Yard located on Suranjan Das Road.
Traffic officials urged the public to strictly follow parking instructions to avoid congestion and inconvenience.
Major restrictions on NICE Road
Significant traffic restrictions will also be enforced on the NICE Road, especially between Sompura Cloverleaf Junction and Kanakapura Road.
The restrictions will remain in force from 9 am to 3 pm due to the Prime Minister’s movement towards South Bengaluru for the Art of Living anniversary programme.
Police warned commuters to expect delays and congestion in several parts of South Bengaluru during the restricted hours.
Alternative routes announced
To minimise inconvenience, traffic police have announced alternative routes for motorists travelling across different parts of the city.
Vehicles travelling from Tumakuru Road towards Kanakapura Road have been advised to take a right turn at the CMTI Junction and proceed via Rajkumar Punyabhoomi Road.
Commuters travelling from Magadi Road towards Kanakapura Road should divert at Sumanahalli Junction.
Those travelling from Mysuru Road towards Kanakapura Road have been asked to use Nayandahalli Junction and continue via the Outer Ring Road.
Motorists heading towards Bannerghatta Road from the Kanakapura Road side have been instructed to turn left at Konanakunte Cross towards Harinagara Cross and continue through Jambusavari Dinne Road.
Diversions for Bengaluru-Kanakapura traffic
Police also issued advisories for commuters travelling between Bengaluru and Kanakapura.
Motorists have been asked to avoid restricted NICE Road junctions and instead use the Uttarahalli-Kengeri-Agara route or the Anjanapura 80 Feet Road to connect to Bannerghatta Main Road.
Traffic authorities appealed to the public to cooperate with officials and plan journeys in advance to avoid delays during the Prime Minister’s visit.
Officials also advised commuters to use public transport wherever possible and stay updated through official traffic advisories before travelling on Sunday.
