A 24-year-old software engineer named Yashwanth B tragically lost his life after his father accidentally stabbed him during a domestic altercation in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Yashwanth, employed at a private company in Sarjapur and residing in Puttenahalli, tried to pacify a heated argument between his parents.
The incident occurred around 10 am when Yashwanth’s parents, Basavaraj and his wife, were fighting over a domestic issue. According to police, the verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation. Basavaraj, in a fit of rage, fetched a knife and threatened his wife. Yashwanth intervened to stop his father but was inadvertently stabbed in the process.
Despite being rushed to Dayananda Sagar hospital, Yashwanth was declared dead upon arrival. The hospital authorities notified the police, who subsequently arrested Basavaraj. He is facing charges under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A police officer explained that Basavaraj and his wife frequently argued over trivial matters, often related to the care of Basavaraj’s mother. The Forensic Science Laboratory visited the scene to collect evidence and further investigate the incident.
