Bengaluru: Two young college students tragically lost their lives in a series of accidents on the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) in Bengaluru’s eastern outskirts early Sunday morning, according to police reports.

The fatal collision, which occurred around 3:30 am in the Hoskote-Devanahalli section of STRR, involved three trucks and a Hyundai Getz being driven by a minor, owned by his father.

Described by a senior police officer as a “total freak” incident, the crash occurred during a road trip by four teenage friends from Kempapura to Hoskote, celebrating one of their birthdays. After dinner at a popular biryani spot in Hoskote, they were returning home late at night.

Attempting to overtake a truck near Attibele village, about 16 km from Hoskote, the driver of the Hyundai Getz collided with it and was subsequently rear-ended by another truck. In an effort to avoid further collision, the driver veered left, ultimately crashing into a roadside barrier.

The impact was severe, prompting two of the boys seated in the back — Siddharth (16) and Harshavardhan (17) — to flee the car and run across the road to a U-turn point on the opposite lane, which was dimly lit. Tragically, they were struck and killed by a truck coming from the Devanahalli direction.

The two occupants in the front seats survived with minor injuries, having worn their seat belts, according to police sources.

“We have filed cases against the truck drivers involved in hitting the boys’ car, as well as the truck that fatally struck the boys,” stated C K Baba, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural.

The incident has been registered at Sulible police station under BNS sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash and negligent driving). As of now, no arrests have been made.

Three of the boys attended a prominent college in Kempapura, while the fourth was reported to have dropped out, police sources added.
