A tragic incident occurred in Bengaluru when an 11-year-old boy died after a gate at a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) ground collapsed on him. The incident took place around 4 pm on Sunday at the Malleswaram ground, where the boy had gone to play.
Niranjan, a resident of the Vivekananda Block slum on Dattatreya Temple Street in PG Halli, was identified as the victim. According to Saidulu Adavath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the North Division of Bengaluru City, Malleswaram Police visited the site to conduct an investigation into the incident.
Circumstances Surrounding the Incident
Reports indicate that Niranjan attempted to pull open the main gate when it suddenly fell on him. He sustained severe injuries and was quickly rushed to KC General Hospital by local residents. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss.
Niranjan was a class 5 student at a government high school and was known to frequently visit the ground to play with his friends, particularly on holidays. An initial investigation revealed that the hinges of the gate were rusty, which may have contributed to its collapse.

A 13-year-old boy died when an iron bar from an under-construction house fell on his head. The incident occurred on August 23 around 5 pm, when Rohit, whose family hailed from Bihar’s Buxar, was passing by the construction site near Nagar Dairy.
Following the incident, an FIR was filed against the landlord, Gaurav Sharma, and his uncle, Devdutt Sharma, based on a complaint from Rohit’s father, Rajesh Rai. The charges included sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, pertaining to death due to negligence and negligence during construction or repair of a building. Rohit was rushed to Noida District Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

Community members have expressed their outrage and called for stricter regulations to ensure that such tragedies do not recur. Parents and guardians are particularly worried about the safety of children in public spaces, emphasising the need for better maintenance of infrastructure.
As investigations continue in both cases, the families of the deceased are left to grapple with their immense loss, while authorities face increasing pressure to address safety issues in their respective areas.
