A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Bengaluru’s Chandapura area when a month-old baby girl was found dead after drowning in a water tank on Monday. Police suspect it may be an honour killing and are investigating all possible leads.
According to reports, the baby was the daughter of Manu, a 25-year-old cab driver, and Archita, who belong to different castes—Manu is a Dalit, while Archita hails from an upper-caste family. Despite opposition to their inter-caste marriage, the couple had recently had a child.
On the day of the tragedy, Archita had placed her baby on a cradle and went to the washroom. Upon returning, the baby was missing, and frantic searching ensued. Archita’s family raised the alarm and began a search. A local resident suggested checking the rooftop, and there, Archita discovered her baby’s lifeless body floating in the water tank.
Archita’s father, Murali, filed a missing complaint, and the police launched a search operation. Investigators believe the baby’s death might be linked to family opposition to the couple’s marriage, pointing to a possible honour killing. Authorities are questioning family members and reviewing CCTV footage to uncover the truth.
The baby’s death has left the family in shock, and the investigation continues as police explore all angles.
