Two disturbing incidents of alleged animal cruelty have been reported from eastern parts of Bengaluru, prompting police action and renewed concern over protection of stray animals.

Separate FIRs have reportedly been registered in connection with the incidents in KR Puram and Ramamurthynagar.

Dog attacked with knife in KR Puram

According to a complaint filed by Vikash A Bafna, the first incident took place on April 25 around 8.30 am in Muniyappa Layout.

An unidentified youth allegedly attacked a stray dog with a knife, causing serious injuries.

Witnesses also claimed the accused behaved aggressively towards nearby residents, creating panic in the locality.

The injured dog was reportedly rushed to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

Dog death reported in Ramamurthynagar

In a separate case reported on April 21, a complaint was filed by Rajesh regarding an incident near the BBMP Public Health Centre.

Preliminary inquiry suggested a construction worker allegedly killed a dog at the site.

The worker reportedly claimed self-defence, saying the animal had behaved aggressively.

Probe underway

The second case came to light after information was shared by an animal welfare group, which sought legal action.

Police are investigating both matters under applicable provisions, including animal protection laws and relevant criminal sections.

Public concern rises

The back-to-back incidents have sparked anger among citizens and animal welfare supporters, with many demanding stronger enforcement against cruelty to animals.
