Bengaluru: Chandralayout police have arrested two transgender persons for allegedly stealing 226 grams of gold jewellery, valued at around ₹20 lakh, from a house in Nagarabhavi after gaining entry through a meeting arranged on a dating application.

The accused have been identified as Nazia and Syed Mousheen. According to the complaint, the duo allegedly threatened a man with a knife before taking the jewellery from a cupboard and escaping. Police arrested the two following an investigation into the incident and are questioning them to establish further details and trace the stolen ornaments.

The case came to light after Raju, the house owner, lodged a complaint with the police.

Dating app meeting allegedly led to robbery

According to the police account, Rohit (name changed), who works for a private company, lives with his family in a rented house in Nagarabhavi. His wife had travelled to Tamil Nadu on October 22.

The following day, Rohit planned to visit his house in Hesaraghatta. Before leaving, he handed over the keys of the Nagarabhavi residence to his friend Harshavardhan, who was temporarily staying there.

On the same night, Harshavardhan reportedly contacted a woman through a dating application and invited the person to the house. A visitor wearing a mask arrived at the residence, allegedly posing as a woman.

Harshavardhan reportedly realised that the visitor was a transgender person only after allowing the individual inside.

Second accused allegedly summoned

After entering the house, the visitor reportedly contacted another person over the phone and spoke in English before asking the second accused to come to the residence.

Both individuals allegedly began searching the house. When Harshavardhan questioned their actions, the situation reportedly escalated.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly took out a knife and threatened him. They warned him not to interfere and reportedly threatened to involve the police if he continued questioning them.

The duo then allegedly opened a cupboard and removed 226 grams of gold ornaments. They subsequently escaped from the house with the jewellery.

Police arrest two accused

Following the complaint, Chandralayout police began investigating the incident and tracing the suspects. The investigation led to the arrest of Nazia and Syed Mousheen.

Police have taken the accused into custody for further questioning. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged robbery and working to recover the stolen gold ornaments.

The police are also expected to investigate the sequence of events involving the dating application, the entry into the residence and the alleged role of both accused.

Investigation focuses on recovery of gold

The stolen jewellery weighed 226 grams and was valued at approximately ₹20 lakh, according to the complaint. Its recovery remains a key part of the investigation.

The incident highlights how an apparently routine meeting arranged through an online platform can, in some circumstances, become the starting point of a criminal offence. However, the police investigation will establish the precise sequence of events and the alleged roles of those arrested.

The two accused have been arrested, and further details are expected to emerge as questioning and the investigation continue.
