Bengaluru police have registered two separate cases after two men were allegedly assaulted by different groups during IPL final celebrations on the night of May 31.
The incidents were reported under the jurisdiction of the Ashok Nagar and Sadashiva Nagar police stations following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory over Gujarat Titans.
Man attacked at Residency Road pub
According to police, the first incident occurred at a pub on Residency Road, where 25-year-old Khushwant Singh was allegedly assaulted by a group of four unidentified individuals.
As per the FIR, Singh was celebrating RCB’s victory with six friends around 11 pm when an argument reportedly broke out. The dispute allegedly escalated, and Singh was attacked with a glass.
The Ashok Nagar police have registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous means.
Second assault reported at another pub
In a separate incident, Suhas AA (32), a real estate dealer, was allegedly assaulted at a pub under the Sadashiva Nagar police limits.
Police said the incident occurred around 11.30 pm while Suhas was watching the IPL final near the bar counter.
According to the complaint, a group of eight to nine men allegedly abused him for not allowing them to watch the match and later attacked him.
After receiving medical treatment, Suhas approached the police and filed a complaint.
Investigation underway
Both police stations have launched investigations into the incidents and are working to identify those involved.
The cases have once again highlighted concerns over public safety during large-scale sporting celebrations, where crowded venues and heightened emotions can sometimes lead to confrontations.
Further investigation is in progress.
