The Jnanabharathi police have arrested two alleged chain snatchers accused of targeting women walking alone and recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing 45.82 grams, valued at approximately ₹5 lakh.
The arrests were made following an investigation into a chain-snatching incident reported in Malathahalli.
Woman targeted while walking alone
According to police, a woman residing in Balaji Layout, Malathahalli, was walking along 5th Cross Road when two men on a motorcycle approached her.
The pillion rider allegedly snatched her gold mangalsutra and fled the spot along with his accomplice before bystanders could react.
The victim subsequently lodged a complaint with the Jnanabharathi police, who launched an investigation to identify and trace the suspects.
Gold ornaments recovered
During the course of the investigation, police tracked down and arrested the two accused. Officials said stolen gold ornaments weighing 45.82 grams were recovered from their possession.
The seized jewellery is estimated to be worth around ₹5 lakh.
Police suspect the accused may have been involved in other similar offences and are examining their possible links to additional chain-snatching cases reported in the city.
Police urge public to remain vigilant
With chain-snatching incidents continuing to pose a concern in several parts of Bengaluru, police have advised residents, particularly women and senior citizens, to remain alert while travelling or walking alone.
Officials also urged citizens to immediately report suspicious movements or criminal activities to help prevent such offences.
Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the accused persons’ involvement in chain-snatching activities
