Bengaluru: A man in his early 30s was allegedly murdered for stepping on another man’s foot at a hotel in Basaveshwara Nagar on Monday morning, in a shocking incident that has raised concerns over rising violence triggered by trivial disputes.

Police have identified the suspects as Manjunath and Bhagyaraj alias Papu. A case of murder has been registered, and an investigation is underway to trace and apprehend the accused.

Incident at hotel on Thimmaiah Road

According to police, the incident occurred around 11.45 am on March 2 at Raghavendra Veg Dosa Corner on Thimmaiah Road in Basaveshwara Nagar. The victim, identified as Shashikumar, was present at the eatery when the altercation reportedly took place.

Police said that the suspects were also at the hotel at the same time. An argument allegedly broke out after Shashikumar is said to have accidentally stepped on the foot of one of the accused. What began as a minor dispute quickly escalated into violence.

During the altercation, the suspects allegedly attacked Shashikumar with a sharp weapon. He sustained grievous injuries in the assault and collapsed at the spot.

Victim succumbs to injuries

Shashikumar was rushed for medical assistance, but he succumbed to his injuries. The sudden escalation of a trivial issue into a fatal assault has left local residents in shock.

Police sources said that CCTV footage from nearby establishments is being examined to piece together the sequence of events. Statements from eyewitnesses present at the hotel are also being recorded as part of the investigation.

Murder case registered

Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Efforts are on to trace the accused, who reportedly fled the scene after the attack.

Senior police officials stated that teams have been formed to locate the suspects and bring them to justice at the earliest. They added that no one involved in such violent acts will be spared.

Concerns over rising violence

The incident has once again highlighted how minor altercations in public places can spiral into serious crimes. Police have appealed to citizens to exercise restraint and avoid escalating petty disagreements into confrontations.

Authorities also urged hotel and commercial establishment owners to install and maintain functional CCTV cameras to aid investigations in case of incidents.

Further investigation is in progress, and police are expected to make arrests soon.
