Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru has detained two men for allegedly targeting former Congress MP and popular Kannada actress Ramya with offensive comments on social media.
The accused have been identified as Obanna T (25) from Vijayanagar and Gangadhar from Chikkaballapura—both employed as daily wage workers. Police say the two used Instagram accounts @robertraghav5_d_boss_tj and @darshan_thoogudeepa___ to post vulgar and abusive messages directed at Ramya.
The harassment reportedly began after Ramya shared her opinion on the Supreme Court hearings in the Renukaswamy murder case, where actor Darshan Thoogudeepa is a prime accused. The suspects, known to be his ardent fans, allegedly reacted in anger.
Ramya lodged a formal complaint on July 28 with Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh. Following swift investigation, Singh revealed that authorities have also tracked 11 additional individuals for similar digital misconduct.
In her complaint, Ramya provided a list of 43 social media profiles that had posted abusive and insulting content. She later took to X (formerly Twitter) to thank Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara, Commissioner Singh, and the CCB team for their prompt action.
Legal action is underway under several sections of the Information Technology Act, including Section 67 (obscene content) and Section 66C (identity misuse), along with relevant provisions from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, covering criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, and insults to modesty.
