Bengaluru: Two young women allegedly created a public disturbance and assaulted a cab driver after their scooter reportedly brushed against his vehicle on a city road on Saturday night, triggering a heated argument that escalated into a physical altercation. Police have taken both women into custody after bystanders alerted authorities and videos of the incident surfaced on social media.

According to police sources, the incident began after a minor road contact between a two-wheeler and a cab, but quickly turned into a confrontation that drew a crowd and disrupted traffic in the area.

Minor vehicle contact triggered dispute

Police said the women were returning after meeting friends when their scooter allegedly grazed a cab driven by a man identified as Ahmed. Following the contact between the vehicles, the cab driver reportedly stopped and questioned them about the incident.

What began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into an argument. Investigators said that instead of settling the matter, the situation intensified, with raised voices and aggressive behaviour reported at the scene.

Sources stated that the women allegedly tried to leave without resolving the issue, which led to further confrontation between them and the driver.

Bystanders intervened as situation escalated

As the argument grew louder, local residents and passersby gathered at the spot. Some bystanders intervened and prevented the women from leaving immediately, sensing that the dispute could turn violent.

During the altercation, the women are accused of verbally abusing the cab driver and onlookers. Police sources said one of them allegedly attacked the driver using a chain wrapped around her hand. Obscene gestures and aggressive conduct were also reported during the scuffle.

No serious injuries have been officially reported so far, but the driver is said to have sustained minor injuries and shock due to the assault.

Videos of incident circulated online

Multiple videos recorded by people at the scene began circulating on social media shortly after the incident. The clips show a chaotic roadside scene, with the two women shouting, using abusive language and confronting both the driver and members of the public.

In the videos, a crowd can be seen attempting to calm the situation while keeping distance from the altercation. Traffic movement in the stretch was briefly affected due to the roadside commotion and gathering.

Police said the videos are being reviewed as part of the investigation to establish the sequence of events and identify specific acts of assault and abuse.

Intoxication not yet confirmed

Some witnesses at the scene claimed that one or both of the women appeared to be in an intoxicated state. However, police officials said intoxication has not yet been medically confirmed and cannot be treated as established fact at this stage.

Officials said that if required, medical examination reports and witness statements will be considered as part of the case record.

Police cautioned against speculation and said conclusions will be based only on verified evidence.

Case registered, two taken into custody

After residents informed the police control room, a patrol team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. A case has been registered at Hulimavu Police Station based on the cab driver’s complaint and preliminary findings.

The two women, identified by police as Lisa and Mathew, have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Officers are recording statements from the driver, eyewitnesses and those who filmed the incident.

Relevant sections relating to assault, public nuisance and use of abusive language are likely to be invoked, officials said.

Police warn against road rage incidents

Police officials said the incident highlights the growing number of road rage and roadside confrontation cases being reported in urban areas. Even minor vehicle contact can escalate into serious disputes if tempers are not controlled, they noted.

Authorities advised motorists to avoid confrontation after minor accidents and instead seek lawful remedies through traffic police or insurance processes. Citizens are also urged not to take the law into their own hands during roadside disputes.

Conclusion

The roadside clash, which began with a minor vehicle brush, escalated into an assault and public disturbance, leading to police action and arrests. With video evidence and witness accounts now under review, further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.
