Two construction workers were killed after a partially built wall, allegedly weakened by continuous rainfall, collapsed at Bommashettihalli village under the Madanayakanahalli police limits on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
The deceased have been identified as Dyamappa and Babulal, who were engaged in construction work at the site when the accident occurred.
Wall gives way during construction
According to police, heavy rain over the past two days had soaked the under-construction wall, weakening its structure.
When work resumed, the wall suddenly collapsed, trapping the two workers under the debris. Despite rescue efforts, both succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
The incident occurred at a construction site reportedly owned by a person identified as Patel.
The bodies have been shifted to the Nelamangala Government Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Third rain-related wall collapse in a week
The latest tragedy marks the third fatal wall-collapse incident reported in Bengaluru within a week amid persistent monsoon rains.
Earlier, seven people were killed when a compound wall collapsed at Bowring Hospital during heavy rainfall. Days later, an autorickshaw driver lost his life after a club compound wall caved in at Vijayanagar.
With two more deaths now reported, the toll from recent rain-related wall collapses in and around Bengaluru has risen to 10.
Safety concerns mount
The recurring incidents have intensified concerns about the structural stability of ageing buildings, compound walls and partially completed construction projects across the city.
Residents and civic activists have called for urgent inspections of vulnerable structures, particularly in areas affected by prolonged rainfall.
Police have registered a case at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
As Bengaluru continues to experience heavy monsoon showers, authorities are expected to strengthen safety checks to prevent further loss of life.
