The Urban Development Department (UDD) has rejected Namma Metro’s proposal to widen three key roads leading to the under-construction Bamboo Bazaar underground station in Shivajinagar. The move shifts the responsibility to the BBMP, as the surrounding roads are already narrow and congested.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) had sought ₹41.36 crore for land acquisition to widen AM Road, Dhanakoti Road, and Bamboo Bazaar Road. AM Road was a priority, since a foot overbridge (FOB) is planned to connect the metro station with Cantonment railway station. However, during a recent high-powered committee meeting, BMRCL informed that UDD had declined to sanction funds, forcing the corporation to proceed without major widening.
For now, BMRCL will focus on limited land acquisition — including areas near Entry ‘C’ of the station, 218.67 sqm from the ESI building, and 332.10 sqm from Madeena Masjid — to slightly improve access. Officials admit these measures will not fully ease congestion, but will help in facilitating commuter entry and exit.
