Bengaluru: A United States citizen has been arrested after police recovered live bullets and a magazine from a lodge room in the city, officials said. The accused was taken into custody following an investigation launched after the ammunition was discovered by lodge staff in the JC Nagar area.
The accused has been identified as Muthar Armaan, also known as Muthar Rehman. According to police, he had checked into Jayamahal Palace Lodge in Bengaluru‘s JC Nagar area and had submitted his passport as identification while booking the room.
Authorities stated that the matter came to light after lodge staff reportedly found suspicious items left inside the room following his stay.
Lodge staff alert police after discovering ammunition
According to police officials, staff members at the lodge discovered live bullets and a magazine inside the room occupied by the accused.
Investigators said the accused had allegedly informed the lodge management that he would return after two days to collect the items.
However, when he did not return within the stated period, the lodge management reportedly approached the JC Nagar police station and handed over the recovered items to authorities.
Police then initiated an investigation to identify and locate the individual linked to the ammunition.
The prompt reporting of the incident by the lodge management enabled police to begin tracing the accused and examining the circumstances surrounding the recovery.
Police trace and arrest accused
Following the complaint, police launched efforts to trace the accused and subsequently detained him for questioning.
During the investigation, officials found that the recovered bullets were reportedly manufactured in the United States.
Police said the accused claimed during questioning that he was associated with the American armed forces. However, authorities stated that verification regarding his background and claims remains underway.
Investigators are continuing to examine documents and other available details as part of the inquiry process.
