A heavy goods vehicle driver sustained serious injuries in an accident on the Outer Ring Road during the early hours of Monday. The 66-year-old driver, identified as Azam Khan, was transporting iron sheets when the incident occurred near Embassy TechVillage, Devarabeesanahalli, between 3:45 am and 4 am.
According to authorities from the HAL Airport traffic police station, Khan, a native of Madhya Pradesh, veered suddenly to the left from the main carriageway, leading to a loss of control over his Maharashtra-registered truck. Subsequently, he collided with a tree, a traffic signboard, and a pole fixed above a GAIL Gas pipeline before crossing the median and landing on the service road. Fortunately, the pipeline remained undamaged.
Khan was rushed to Victoria Hospital with severe head injuries and remains in serious condition as of Monday evening. Despite the accident, the owner of the vehicle has yet to come forward.
