Bengaluru: A 36-year-old man from Kanakapura has approached the police for protection after surviving two violent murder attempts by a dreaded local rowdy, Ballari Shiva, who is wanted in over ten criminal cases, including double murder.
The victim, C Shivappa of Nallahalli Doddi village, filed a complaint on Monday, revealing that he had already paid more than ₹30,000 to Shiva under duress. The payments were allegedly demanded so Shiva could fund his gambling habits. Despite this, Shiva’s aggression escalated when Shivappa refused to give more money.
The first attack occurred around 3 PM on April 24, when Shivappa was travelling with friends Suresh and Manjunath. Ballari Shiva allegedly intercepted their car and attempted to assault Shivappa with a machete. The trio narrowly escaped by fleeing the scene on foot, later returning to retrieve their vehicle.
Later that evening, around 9 PM, the accused turned up at Shivappa’s residence, hurled verbal abuse, and demanded that he step outside. Out of fear, Shivappa stayed indoors. In a fit of rage, Shiva damaged the victim’s scooter and several household items before leaving.
The accused, identified as K Shivakumar alias Ballari Shiva (37), hails from Doddahalahalli in Ramanagara district. Police say he has a long criminal history and is known for extortion and violence. Locals have reportedly avoided filing complaints due to fear of retaliation.
Sathanur police have registered an FIR, booking Shiva for attempt to murder, extortion, and criminal intimidation under the BNS.
