Bengaluru: Residents of Sukhadhare village in Nagamangala taluk staged a protest against the distribution of poor-quality millet mixed with stones, soil, and rat excrement from the local Nyayabele shop under the Annabhagya Yojana scheme. The villagers, who are beneficiaries of the government program, alleged that the ration shop owner had been distributing substandard millet every month despite complaints to the authorities.
The protesters expressed their outrage by pouring millet on the road and shouting slogans against the food department and the fair price shop owner. They claimed that while 97 other fair price shops in the taluk were distributing good-quality millet, only the Sukhadhare shop was providing substandard grains.
Following the protest, food inspectors Pavitra and Revanna visited the site, inspected the warehouse, and gathered information from the shop owner and beneficiaries. They submitted a report to their superiors, recommending action to suspend the shop owner’s license. The incident highlights concerns about the quality of food distributed under government schemes and the need for effective monitoring and action against errant suppliers.”
