A photograph of a partially tarred road in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media, reigniting public debate over the city’s road infrastructure and the quality of civic works.

Shared on Reddit, the image shows only a narrow strip in the centre of a road covered with fresh tar, while both sides remain unpaved and dusty. The user who posted the image sarcastically captioned it, “Selected development in Bengaluru,” prompting a wave of reactions online.

Although the exact circumstances remain unclear, it is not known whether the photograph was taken while roadwork was still in progress or after incomplete work had been left behind.

Social media reacts

Several Reddit users identified the location as Kundalahalli Gate, with the original poster humorously referring to it as a “monumental road.”

The post quickly gained traction, with many users expressing frustration over Bengaluru’s recurring civic issues.

One user joked that the road should be declared a tourist attraction, while others said such images undermine the Karnataka government’s vision of creating a world-class ‘Brand Bengaluru’ through improved urban infrastructure.

Many residents also pointed to long-standing concerns such as potholes, damaged footpaths, traffic congestion and delayed road projects, saying they continue to affect daily life across the city.

Fresh scrutiny over road quality

The viral post comes just days after another video claimed that the newly developed Major Arterial Road (MAR) built by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had developed sinkholes.

However, BDA Commissioner P. Manivannan clarified that the road shown in the video was a service road still under construction and not the main carriageway, adding that the project is scheduled for completion by December 2026.

While authorities have not commented on the viral image from Kundalahalli Gate, the post has once again highlighted growing public expectations for better planning, timely execution and improved quality of road infrastructure in Bengaluru
