Bengaluru: A city resident’s post has gone viral for capturing the absurdity of Bengaluru’s civic mismanagement through the story of a single footpath that transformed from freshly built to treacherous in a matter of weeks.
Shared with four revealing images, the post documents the state of the pavement near Fabindia on Whitefield Main Road. It highlights how rapid deterioration can occur due to shoddy planning and a lack of coordination among civic authorities.
The caption read, “Built in April, ruined in July,” followed by a pointed thanks to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP): “Thanks to #BBMP and concerned teams involved in this mine digging activity!”
The photos show a perfectly laid footpath in April, dug up by late June, then hurriedly patched, only to end up by July 6 as an uneven hazard with misaligned tiles nearly impossible to walk on safely.
The post quickly gained traction online, with many residents venting their frustration. “Visit Doddanekkundi, they are digging gold since 6 months,” one person joked. Another remarked, “This is exactly how government functions here,” while others noted the tiles appeared reused rather than new.
Several users called out the recurring problem of newly constructed infrastructure being dug up almost immediately for utility work, only to be rebuilt poorly. Citizens argued this reflected deep-seated inefficiency, wasteful spending, and disregard for public safety.
As the monsoon rains begin, worries are mounting that poorly maintained footpaths like this will become even more dangerous
