A serious error by the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board has left the future of a visually impaired student uncertain after she was wrongly marked absent in one subject despite appearing for the exam.
Liza Khanam, a student of Union High School, had written all six SSLC papers held in April.
Brilliant scores in five subjects
Liza secured impressive marks in five subjects:
- First Language Urdu – 124
- Kannada – 100
- English – 92
- Economics – 98
- Political Science – 92
However, in the marks card issued by the board, she was shown absent for the Social Science paper.
Family seeks justice
Her parents have expressed anguish over the lapse, saying the mistake has caused emotional distress and uncertainty about her academic future.
They have urged authorities to immediately correct the error and ensure justice for their daughter.
Officials promise correction
Nagaraj Naik said the student had indeed appeared for the examination and attendance records have already been submitted to the district authorities.
He added that the process of forwarding documents to the board is under way and the issue is expected to be resolved soon.
Concern over examination errors
The incident has raised fresh concerns over data accuracy and result processing in public examinations, especially when mistakes affect deserving students.
Education activists said such lapses can deeply impact students, particularly those who overcome personal challenges to excel academically.
Hope for quick relief
Many have called for swift action so that Liza’s merit is officially recognised without delay.
