Bengaluru: A Bengaluru-based interior designer has accused bike taxi platform Rapido of abandoning her after a devastating road accident left her with life-threatening injuries and medical expenses exceeding ₹20 lakh.
Sani Krishna, a 32-year-old interior designer from Kerala, shared her ordeal in a viral Instagram video, alleging that the company failed to provide meaningful support despite repeated attempts by her family to seek assistance.
Routine commute ends in tragedy
According to Sani, the accident occurred on June 17 when she booked a Rapido bike taxi from Byrasandra to her office in Domlur. She alleged that less than a kilometre into the journey, the rider attempted to recklessly overtake a tractor near Bagmane Tech Park, causing the motorcycle to lose control.
She claimed she was thrown onto the road and was subsequently run over by the tractor, leaving her critically injured.
Sani was initially admitted to a nearby hospital before being shifted to Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, where she underwent multiple surgeries. She was later transferred to Mithras Hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, for further treatment and rehabilitation.
Family alleges lack of support
The accident left Sani with multiple fractured ribs, a broken shoulder, severe facial injuries requiring plastic surgery, liver damage, a collapsed lung and injuries that led to the removal of her spleen. She is also undergoing treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
According to Sani, her medical bills have crossed ₹20 lakh, while her family claims the total treatment cost has already exceeded ₹25 lakh.
In her viral video, she alleged that Rapido ignored a legal notice sent by her family and instead directed them to an insurance process through automated emails. She has announced plans to approach the consumer court, accusing the company of failing to honour its safety commitments.
Rapido responds
Following widespread attention on social media, Rapido said it has been in touch with Sani’s family and will continue to provide all possible assistance.
However, her family maintains that no concrete financial compensation or support has been offered so far. The incident has triggered widespread public criticism, with many social media users calling for greater accountability from app-based ride-hailing platforms.
