A woman has been arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a rented house in Chikkabanavara on the outskirts of Bengaluru, police said on Tuesday.

The arrest was made by the Women Protection Squad of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) following a raid based on specific information received by the police.

Raid conducted at rented house

According to officials, the raid was carried out at a house in Rudramma Layout, Chikkabanavara, where women were allegedly being housed and used for prostitution activities.

During the operation, police took one woman into custody for allegedly forcing or inducing women into prostitution. Two women who were reportedly engaged in prostitution at the premises were rescued and provided assistance.

Accused allegedly arranged clients by phone

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that she was operating the racket to earn money. Police said she allegedly contacted prospective clients over the telephone, invited them to the rented house and facilitated prostitution activities there.

Investigators are examining whether the accused had links to a larger network and if others were involved in organising or promoting the illegal activity.

Investigation underway

Police have registered a case and launched further investigations to identify customers, associates and any other individuals connected to the operation.

Officials said efforts are also being made to determine how long the alleged racket had been functioning from the rented premises.

The rescued women are being provided necessary support, while the accused remains in police custody for further questioning.
