Bengaluru: A tense drama unfolded in Bengaluru‘s Hulimavu after a 35-year-old woman climbed onto an overhead water tank with her four-year-old son and threatened to jump unless the Chief Minister personally addressed her grievances. Both were safely rescued following hours of counselling by police and emergency responders.
The incident took place around noon in Doddakammanahalli under the Hulimavu Police Station limits, causing panic among residents who immediately alerted the authorities.
Massive rescue operation launched
According to police, the woman, a native of Kerala residing in a rented penthouse on the third floor of a residential building, climbed onto the water tank situated atop the four-storey structure with her young son.
She reportedly declared that she would end her life unless the Chief Minister visited the spot and intervened in her pending complaints.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel, civil defence teams and police rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area as rescue efforts began.
Police persuade woman to come down
Hulimavu Police Inspector Jagadish R reached the spot around 1.30 pm and held prolonged negotiations with the woman. After extensive counselling, officers successfully convinced her to come down safely along with her child.
During the discussions, the woman alleged that a retired senior bureaucrat had cheated her and claimed she had already lodged a complaint at Tilaknagar Police Station while also pursuing legal remedies in court.
She further alleged that police had failed to take action after a friend damaged her mobile phone several months ago and insisted that she had been denied justice.
Fresh complaint accepted
Following the rescue, police took the woman to the station for counselling and accepted a fresh complaint regarding the alleged damage to her mobile phone.
Authorities said both the woman and her son were safe. Police are examining her allegations and taking appropriate legal steps while continuing to provide counselling and support
