Bengaluru: A 27-year-old woman died after allegedly consuming pesticide following a domestic dispute with her husband in the city on Thursday. The woman, identified as Kavya, reportedly took the extreme step after an argument at home that began over reheated food and escalated into a heated exchange.

According to preliminary information from police, Kavya had been married to Rangaswamy for five years and the couple had a four-year-old child. The incident reportedly occurred after Kavya reheated and served sambar that had been prepared three days earlier.

Police said the husband questioned her about serving the same food again, which led to a verbal argument between the couple. The discussion soon escalated, and during the altercation, the husband allegedly abused her verbally and attempted to assault her.

Alleged pesticide consumption

Following the confrontation, Kavya is said to have consumed pesticide that had reportedly been kept in the house for agricultural use. Shortly afterwards, family members noticed that she began vomiting and appeared to be in severe distress.

Alarmed by her condition, relatives rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, she died on the way before medical assistance could be provided.

Police said the sudden deterioration in her health prompted immediate efforts to save her, but she could not be revived. The incident has left family members and neighbours shocked.

Police register case

After receiving information about the death, police officials reached the location and began preliminary inquiries. Kavya’s body was later shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination as part of the legal procedures.

Authorities have registered a case at the local police station and initiated an investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident. Officers are recording statements from family members and neighbours to understand the sequence of events that preceded her death.

Police said they will also examine whether there was any history of domestic disputes between the couple and if additional factors contributed to the tragedy.

Domestic disputes and mental stress

Incidents involving domestic conflicts sometimes escalate unexpectedly, particularly when emotional stress and family pressures are involved. Experts often highlight the importance of communication, counselling and timely support in resolving such disputes before they lead to extreme outcomes.

Authorities and social organisations have also emphasised the need for greater awareness about mental health support and conflict resolution within families. Early intervention through counselling or community support can often help individuals cope with distressing situations and prevent tragic consequences.

Conclusion

The death of the young woman has raised concerns about the impact of domestic disputes and emotional distress within families. Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and appropriate legal action will be taken once the facts surrounding the incident are fully established.
