Bengaluru: A 26-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide, with her family accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to mental and physical harassment. Police have registered a case against the husband and his parents based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family and further investigation is underway.

Family alleges harassment after marriage

According to the complaint, Lakshmi Priya married Rajesh Aradhya on May 11, 2023, in Mysuru. Rajesh Aradhya is employed as a police constable and is posted at HAL Police Station in Bengaluru’s Marathahalli area.

The complainant alleged that after the marriage, Lakshmi Priya was subjected to continuous mental and physical harassment by her husband Rajesh Aradhya and his parents, identified as Palaksharadhya and Bhagyamma.

The allegations made in the complaint are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been independently established by authorities.

Police are expected to verify the claims and gather evidence as part of the inquiry process.

Family says phone password was shared before death

According to the complaint, Lakshmi Priya later became pregnant and gave birth to a girl child. Following the delivery, she had reportedly stayed at her parental home for nearly six months.

The complaint further stated that on May 22 at around 2.31 pm, Lakshmi Priya allegedly sent her mobile phone password through WhatsApp to her younger sister Jayashree.

Family members reportedly attempted to contact her immediately after receiving the message, but they were unable to reach her.

Later, according to the complaint, Rajesh Aradhya informed the family that Lakshmi Priya had died.

Authorities are expected to examine phone records and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police register case under relevant laws

Based on the complaint filed by family members, police have registered a case against the husband and in-laws under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Officials have stated that further investigation into the circumstances leading to the death is continuing.

Police are expected to record statements from family members and other individuals connected with the case.

Similar allegations reported in another case

The incident comes amid discussions around another reported case involving allegations of harassment and dowry-related concerns.

Police in Ballari had earlier reported the death of a 24-year-old woman identified as Aishwarya, who allegedly died by suicide after reportedly facing mental harassment and dowry-related issues.

According to police, a case was registered and further legal action initiated based on available evidence and allegations made in connection with the incident.
