In a tragic incident, a 30-year-old woman lost her life after an ambulance carrying her was stuck in severe traffic congestion for over an hour in Hyderabad’s Uppal area on April 5.

Traffic gridlock after match

The congestion reportedly occurred following an IPL match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, where large crowds led to heavy traffic buildup on surrounding roads.

Despite traffic personnel being deployed, the sheer volume of vehicles created a gridlock, significantly affecting movement in the area.

Ambulance delayed, patient runs out of oxygen

The woman, identified as Bishna, was being transported to a hospital when the ambulance got stuck in traffic. According to reports, she ran out of oxygen while waiting in the vehicle.

Despite efforts to manage the situation, she passed away inside the ambulance before reaching medical care. She is survived by three children, including a 26-day-old infant.

Police response and probe

Traffic police stated that officers were on duty and had attempted to facilitate the ambulance’s movement by allowing an alternate route near the Survey of India office.

Officials described the incident as unfortunate and confirmed that a detailed report is being prepared to assess the circumstances and response measures.

Concerns over emergency mobility

The incident has raised serious concerns about emergency response during large public events and the need for dedicated green corridors for ambulances.

Experts emphasise that ensuring uninterrupted movement for emergency vehicles is critical to saving lives, particularly in densely populated urban areas.
