Bengaluru: A 26-year-old physiotherapist from Bengaluru was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a homestay in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district, while her boyfriend was discovered unconscious in the same room and has been admitted to hospital.

Police have launched a multi-angle investigation and are yet to determine whether the incident was a case of suicide, poisoning, or foul play.

Couple had stayed at homestay for three days

The deceased has been identified as Surabhi, who was reportedly in a relationship with Sanjeet Ali, a resident of Kerala. According to police, the couple had checked into a homestay near Chikkaballapur and had been staying there for around three days before the incident came to light.

Surabhi had reportedly travelled to the area to volunteer at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus nearby. Police are verifying these details.

Police recover rope and tablets

When officers entered the room, they found Surabhi dead and Ali unconscious. During their search, police recovered a rope, a large number of tablets and a pillow. Signs of vomiting were also noticed inside the room.

Investigators said there were no visible external injuries or signs of bleeding on Surabhi’s body, making the cause of death unclear.

Chikkaballapur Superintendent of Police Kushal Chowksi said the exact cause of death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis.

Family allegations under investigation

Police are also examining allegations made by Surabhi’s family, who claimed they had opposed the relationship and accused Ali of physically assaulting her in the past. Officials said these claims are being investigated, and no conclusions have been reached.

Investigators are also looking into the couple’s previous involvement in an NDPS case and Surabhi’s subsequent rehabilitation for substance abuse.

Ali remains hospitalised and will be questioned once his condition improves. Police said all possibilities, including suicide, murder, poisoning or a suicide pact, are being investigated. The final findings will depend on forensic evidence and the post-mortem report.
