Bengaluru: A 34-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her apartment in the Adugodi area, prompting an investigation by police.
The deceased has been identified as Puja Dutta, a native of Dhanbad, who had been living alone in a third-floor flat for the past three years while working at a private company.
Body discovered after foul smell
According to police, neighbours first noticed a strong foul smell emanating from the flat. When it became unbearable, they alerted the house owner, who in turn contacted authorities.
Police personnel, along with a locksmith, broke open the door, which was locked from inside with three bolts. Inside, they found Puja’s body in a decomposed state, indicating that she had been dead for at least three days.
Officials said the body was discovered in a pool of blood, with torn papers scattered across the room. A table fan was reportedly still running beside her at the time of discovery.
Cause of death unclear
Police have stated that the exact cause of death remains unknown and will be determined only after the post-mortem examination.
The body has been sent for autopsy, and investigators have not ruled out either suicide or foul play at this stage. The absence of a suicide note and the presence of blood and torn papers have added complexity to the case.
Police begin investigation
The Bengaluru City Police have begun a detailed investigation, including examining Puja’s phone call records and questioning individuals who were in contact with her.
Authorities are also looking into her personal and professional background to establish any possible motive or circumstances leading to her death.
Landlord’s statement raises questions
The house owner, identified as Janakamma, told police that Puja was unmarried and largely kept to herself, communicating mostly in Hindi.
She also revealed that a man frequently visited Puja and that the two often had loud arguments. However, the nature of their relationship and the reasons for their disputes remain unclear.
The landlord further stated that she had recently asked Puja to vacate the flat following complaints about loud music, which had led to disagreements between them.
Multiple angles under scrutiny
Investigators are examining several aspects of the case, including the locked condition of the room, reported cut marks on the body, and the possibility of external involvement.
With no suicide note recovered and conflicting indications at the scene, police are treating the case as suspicious until further evidence emerges.
Conclusion
The death of Puja Dutta has raised several unanswered questions, with authorities awaiting post-mortem findings to determine the cause. As the investigation continues, police are exploring all possible angles to establish whether it was a case of suicide or foul play.
