A 42-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her husband at her residence in Dasarahalli village of Ramanagara taluk in Bengaluru South district on Sunday morning, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Nagamma, a homemaker. The accused, Kanimadaiah, a farmer, has been taken into custody for questioning.

Attack took place inside house

According to police, the incident occurred around 7.30 am when Nagamma was at home with her daughter. Investigators said the daughter briefly stepped outside to attend a phone call.

Police alleged that Kanimadaiah, who lived about 100 metres away from Nagamma’s residence, entered the house carrying a machete. He then reportedly locked the main door from inside and attacked Nagamma multiple times.

She sustained severe injuries to her head, hands and legs during the assault.

Neighbours alerted by screams

Hearing Nagamma’s cries for help, her daughter alerted neighbours and local residents rushed to the spot. However, before assistance could reach her, Nagamma succumbed to her injuries.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Couple had been living separately

Police said the couple had been living separately within the same village for the past three years. They have two children, both in their twenties.

Based on a complaint lodged by Nagamma’s daughter Yogitha, Ramanagara Rural Police registered a murder case against Kanimadaiah.

Police investigating motive

During preliminary questioning, the accused allegedly told investigators that he suspected his wife of having a relationship with another villager.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further inquiries are being conducted to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case has once again highlighted concerns over domestic violence and crimes arising from personal disputes, with authorities urging people to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving conflicts.
