Bengaluru: What began as a routine late-night parcel delivery ended in a distressing experience for a Bengaluru woman, sparking fresh discussions on women’s safety and the responsibilities of app-based delivery platforms.

Aneri Thakkar, who shared her experience on Instagram, alleged that an Uber parcel delivery driver behaved inappropriately after arriving at her apartment to collect a jacket she was sending to a friend.

Driver allegedly made repeated requests

According to Thakkar, the delivery executive appeared intoxicated and was unusually “overfriendly” during the pickup.

She claimed the driver first asked if he could charge his mobile phone. Although she agreed, she later noticed that the device still had around 43 per cent battery, making the request seem unnecessary.

The situation became more uncomfortable when the driver allegedly asked if he could smoke on her balcony. Thakkar refused, questioning why he wanted to remain inside her home instead of completing the pickup and leaving.

Before departing, the driver reportedly insisted that she share her personal phone number, claiming he might need it during the delivery. Thakkar said she informed him that her contact details were already accessible through the Uber application, but alleged that he continued to press for her number.

Viral post sparks safety debate

In her Instagram post, Thakkar said she initially tried to give the driver “the benefit of doubt” but later felt his behaviour was alarming.

The video quickly went viral, drawing thousands of views and prompting many users to urge her to report the incident to Uber and the police. Others advised women to avoid inviting delivery personnel into their homes and instead use apartment security desks or designated pickup points whenever possible.

The authenticity of Thakkar’s claims has not been independently verified, and Uber had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of writing.
