Bengaluru: Skeletal remains of a 56-year-old woman were found inside the bathroom of her duplex house in Havanur Layout near T Dasarahalli, within the Bagalagunte police limits.
The deceased has been identified as Dakshayani Umesh, a native of Savadatti taluk in Belagavi district. Police suspect that the remains may be around a year old.
Neighbours alert police after finding house open
According to the police, neighbours noticed that the house had been left open on Thursday night. Suspecting that a theft may have taken place, they informed the police.
The skeletal remains were discovered around 8 pm on Friday. Police subsequently sent the remains to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination.
The police also contacted Dakshayani’s brother, Mahesh Basappa, and informed him about the discovery.
Woman had been living alone
Dakshayani had reportedly been living alone after the death of her husband in 2017 and the death of her only son around five years ago.
Her brother told the police that she developed mental health problems following her son’s death and had received treatment at hospitals in Bengaluru and Shivamogga. She was also reportedly diagnosed with schizophrenia and had spent nearly four months at a rehabilitation centre.
FSL report to establish cause of death
Police suspect that Dakshayani may have died due to illness, as she was living alone and had nobody to care for her. However, the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out.
The cause and circumstances of her death are expected to become clearer after the scientific examination of the remains.
The Bagalagunte police have registered a case of unnatural death and are continuing their investigation.
