Bengaluru: A 22-year-old labourer from Rajasthan lost his life in a tragic workplace accident after a marble cutting machine he was operating went out of control and fatally slashed his neck in Konaghatta village near Doddaballapura.
The deceased has been identified as Shahazad Ali, a native of Nagaur district in Rajasthan. The incident occurred at around 11 am on Monday while he was cutting a marble slab at a construction site.
Machine goes out of control
According to the police, Ali was using a marble cutting machine when it suddenly became uncontrollable and moved towards him. The machine’s rotating blade struck the right side of his neck, causing severe injuries and heavy blood loss.
Co-workers immediately rushed him in a car to a nearby private hospital in Bashettihalli. However, despite efforts to save him, doctors declared him dead at around 11.35 am.
Victim had come to Bengaluru for work
The complaint was lodged by Ali’s friend, S. Sahil Khan (23). Police said Ali, Khan, Sameer and Ashraf had arrived in Bengaluru around three months ago from Rajasthan in search of employment.
The group had been hired to work on the construction of a place of worship, where they were engaged in laying marble slabs. Ali was staying in a labour shed at the construction site along with other workers.
Negligence case registered
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case of causing death by negligence under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against labour contractor Mohammad Arif and the trust overseeing the construction project.
Officials said notices have been served to both parties. The crime investigation team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team inspected the accident site and are examining whether adequate safety measures were in place when the marble cutting work was being carried out.
Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and fix responsibility.
