A recent startup-focused event organised by Y Combinator in Bengaluru has come under criticism after attendees raised concerns over inadequate on-ground arrangements.
The event, titled Startup School India, attracted a large number of founders, engineers, students and aspiring entrepreneurs eager to network and learn from leading startup voices. However, what was expected to be an inspiring gathering has now sparked debate online.
Attendee shares frustrating experience
An AI engineer who attended the programme publicly criticised the event, describing the experience as disappointing despite high expectations surrounding the prestigious startup brand.
According to the attendee, the venue lacked basic comfort measures, with complaints including shortage of seating, limited access to drinking water and uncomfortable heat conditions. The post quickly gained traction on social media, with many users sharing similar concerns.
Online reactions grow
Several people online questioned how a globally recognised startup accelerator could overlook essential crowd management and attendee comfort at a major Indian event.
Others, however, noted that large gatherings often face logistical challenges when turnout exceeds expectations. Some attendees still praised the opportunity to hear from founders and meet like-minded entrepreneurs despite the inconvenience.
Bengaluru remains startup hub
The incident has also highlighted Bengaluru’s position as India’s leading startup city, where global organisations regularly host events to engage with the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
As startup culture continues to expand, participants say professional event planning and attendee experience are becoming just as important as the speakers and sessions themselves
