After a prolonged delay, the Bengaluru Metro’s long-awaited Yellow Line—linking RV Road to Bommasandra via Electronic City—is now projected to launch by August 15, according to top officials from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), as per The Indian Express.

The announcement comes in the wake of a public protest rally led by BJP MPs and MLAs under the banner “Yellow Line na open maadi” (Open the Yellow Line), highlighting the increasing discontent among commuters waiting for improved connectivity in key tech and industrial zones.

BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao confirmed that the corridor has received its third train and that final trials and independent safety assessments are ongoing, especially since the line is equipped for driverless operations.

The initial phase will begin on a limited scale, operating just three trains with an interval of 20 minutes and stopping at five to six critical stations. Full operations will gradually expand as Titagarh Rail Systems delivers two new trains every month from August.

Meanwhile, BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya and P C Mohan have also demanded greater transparency from BMRCL regarding fare structures. A recent report recommending a 100% fare hike has triggered backlash, with citizens calling for the document to be released publicly.

The twin issues of service delay and possible fare surge have reignited public concerns over Bengaluru’s urban mobility planning.
