A late-night clash involving a group of youths outside Vidhana Soudha has prompted the jurisdictional police to register a suo motu case. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, took place on 16 November near the pavement outside the Karnataka High Court, close to Cubbon Park.
Fight turns violent; police intervene
Preliminary inquiries indicate that the youths involved are believed to be from Nepal and employed in various parts of Bengaluru. Police said they had gathered at Cubbon Park earlier in the day and were walking near the High Court when a verbal dispute escalated sharply.
The altercation soon turned violent, with the group seen hitting one another using helmets and sticks. Police personnel deployed near Vidhana Soudha and the adjacent Metro station rushed to the spot and managed to disperse the group.
A senior officer said, “We are in the process of identifying the suspects involved in the clash.”
Separate robbery complaint on same night
Police are also investigating a separate robbery complaint reported near the Vidhana Soudha Metro station on the same night. The complainant, Bimal Giri, stated that he and his brother were walking near the station when a few individuals allegedly confronted them and snatched two mobile phones and ₹1,000 in cash.
However, officers found inconsistencies in the complainant’s version of events. “We suspect it may have been a fight between known persons that ended with the snatching of valuables. This incident has no connection to the clash involving the youths,” a senior police officer clarified.
Investigation underway
CCTV footage from the surrounding locations is being examined to identify the individuals involved in both incidents. Police have also stepped up night-time patrolling around Vidhana Soudha, the High Court, Cubbon Park and the Metro station to prevent further altercations.
