Airtel to increase price of postpaid, prepaid plans from July 3

Airtel

Bharti Airtel on Today (June 28) hiked its telecom tariff rates by 10-21%, a day after rival Reliance Jio announced a hike of 12% to 25% in its mobile plans.

The new rate will be effective from July 3. “We have ensured a very modest price hike (less than 70 paise per day) on the entry level plans, to alleviate any burden on budget-challenged customers,” Bharti Airtel said in its statement.

The new plans range from Rs 189 for 2 GB per month to Rs 3,599 for the 2.5 GB annual plan. These plans include unlimited 5G data for all plans of 2GB/day and above. 28 day subscribers who were Rs 179 for so long will have to pay Rs 199. The tariff plan which was paying Rs 265 has been increased to Rs 299.

Shares of Bharti Airtel rose nearly 2% to Rs 1496.80 on the BSE. Both Reliance Industries and Bharti Airtel posted higher gains in early trade on June 28. Bharti Airtel said average mobile revenue (ARPU) needs to be above Rs 300 to enable a financially healthy business model for telecom companies in India.
