Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has secured a ₹8,500 crore inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step in strengthening infrastructure for India’s clean energy and digital growth ambitions.
The project—focused on supporting green hydrogen and green ammonia development in the Vizag region—was awarded under the Government of India’s tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) mechanism, where AESL emerged as the lowest bidder.

Project scope and infrastructure details

The transmission system will be developed under a special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd, and is designed to support a projected demand of 4,500 MW.

Key components of the project include:

  • A 4×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV GIS substation at Pendurthi (Vizag)
  • A 3×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II
  • Addition of 1,582 circuit km (ckm) of transmission lines
  • Creation of 10,500 MVA transformation capacity

Once completed, AESL’s total transmission network will expand to approximately:

  • 29,531 ckm of transmission lines
  • 1,33,675 MVA transformation capacity

The project is expected to be completed within 30 months.

Supporting green energy ambitions

The transmission system is primarily designed to enable large-scale integration of renewable energy for upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag area.

These emerging sectors are energy-intensive and require reliable, high-capacity power infrastructure. The project will play a crucial role in ensuring stable electricity supply for such next-generation industrial applications.

Powering Vizag’s digital and industrial growth

Beyond clean energy, the project will also support rising electricity demand from the Pendurthi–Vizag region, which is rapidly emerging as a hub for:

  • Hyperscale data centres
  • AI-driven digital infrastructure
  • Subsea connectivity projects
  • Logistics and industrial expansion

According to CEO Kandarp Patel, the project will help build the “energy backbone” for future industrial growth while supporting India’s transition toward a cleaner and more technology-driven economy.
