Amazon employees from across the United States have shared emotional stories about how workplace benefits and support systems helped them navigate some of life’s most difficult personal challenges.

The stories are part of Amazon’s “I Found the Right Place” initiative, where employees speak about experiences involving parenthood, grief, career changes, illness, and adoption.

Support during pregnancy and family loss

One employee, Brittany Ghess, joined Amazon in 2015 while pregnant and working two fast-food jobs in Las Vegas. She said the company offered her a full-time role along with paid maternity and bonding leave shortly before childbirth.

Years later, after losing both her father and younger sister within months, Ghess said Amazon quickly approved leave requests and even sent a care package while planting a tree in memory of her sister.

She currently works as a Learning Ambassador in Atlanta while continuing her studies through Amazon’s Career Choice education programme.

Finding a new purpose later in life

Another employee, Tina Booth, initially joined Amazon during the Covid-19 pandemic to support her family after leaving her previous medical claims job.

What began as a temporary night shift eventually became a long-term career. Booth later moved into training roles where she now helps onboard new employees and teaches workplace safety practices.

She said the job gave her renewed purpose and fulfilment at a stage in life when many parents feel less needed as children grow older.

Support during cancer and adoption journey

Shawn Garcia also shared how Amazon supported him after his partner was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer in 2022.

Garcia said the company’s healthcare coverage remained reliable throughout the treatment process without delays or insurance disputes. After his partner passed away in 2024, he later adopted two boys with the help of Amazon’s legal and adoption assistance programmes.

Focus on employee wellbeing

Amazon says it has invested heavily in employee healthcare, mental health support, paid leave, skills training, and family-building benefits. The company recently announced investments exceeding $1 billion aimed at improving pay and reducing healthcare costs for US fulfilment and transportation employees.

The employee stories have drawn attention online for highlighting how workplace support can extend far beyond professional responsibilities and deeply impact families and communities.
