In a sweeping enforcement action, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has raided key e-commerce warehouses, uncovering thousands of products failing to meet regulatory norms.

During a marathon 15-hour inspection at Amazon Sellers Pvt Ltd in Delhi’s Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, officials confiscated over 3,500 electrical appliances, including geysers and food mixers, lacking the necessary ISI certification. The estimated worth of these seized items stands at ₹70 lakh.

In a separate operation, BIS authorities targeted Flipkart subsidiary Instakart in Delhi’s Trinagar, intercepting 590 pairs of sports shoes that flouted ISI quality standards. These goods, valued at ₹6 lakh, were deemed unfit for sale due to missing compliance markings.

Amazon India issued a statement emphasizing its policy of ensuring that third-party vendors adhere to legal and quality guidelines. The company assured that upon identification of non-compliance, necessary measures are taken.

The raids are part of a broader nationwide campaign to enforce stringent product standards. Similar crackdowns in Tamil Nadu, Gurgaon, and Lucknow have led to the seizure of uncertified consumer goods.

Last week, BIS confiscated 3,376 non-compliant items—including flasks, ceiling fans, and toys—from Amazon’s Tamil Nadu warehouse, worth ₹36 lakh. Flipkart’s Koduvalli storage facility was also targeted, leading to the seizure of unapproved baby diapers and steel containers.

Selling uncertified goods can lead to imprisonment or fines up to ten times the product’s value.
