American aerospace giant Boeing has reportedly terminated around 180 employees at its Bengaluru-based Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) as part of its global workforce reduction of approximately 10%. The layoffs took place during the December quarter of 2024, according to insider sources.
Boeing, which employs about 7,000 people in India, has refrained from making a formal announcement. However, sources indicated that the move was a result of “strategic adjustments” aimed at eliminating certain positions while adding others to maintain its focus on customer service, safety, and quality standards.
India remains a crucial market for Boeing, with the company sourcing nearly $1.25 billion worth of products annually from more than 300 Indian suppliers. Despite the layoffs, Boeing reiterated its strong commitment to India, highlighting its substantial investments, including its large Bengaluru and Chennai campuses that handle complex aerospace engineering work.
The layoffs in India were reportedly executed more cautiously, ensuring minimal disruption to customer relations and ongoing governmental and commercial activities.
