Dunzo Co-Founder Kabeer Biswas to Lead Flipkart’s Quick Commerce Venture

Kabeer Biswas, co-founder of the instant delivery platform Dunzo, is set to lead Walmart-owned Flipkart’s quick commerce division, Minutes, according to sources familiar with the development. Dunzo, which began as a WhatsApp group in 2014, revolutionized delivery services in India with its pick-up and drop-off model, expanding from Bengaluru to nationwide operations.

In 2022, Reliance Retail took a major stake in Dunzo, investing $240 million for a 25.8% share, becoming the largest shareholder. Despite this, Dunzo faced significant financial struggles in recent years, even failing to pay staff salaries for over 18 months, with Biswas himself not drawing a salary for a prolonged period. Following the exit of co-founders Mukund Jha, Dalvir Suri, and Ankur Agarwal, Biswas recently stepped down from his role at Dunzo.

Flipkart’s Minutes aims to capture a share of India’s rapidly growing quick commerce market, which is expected to reach $20 billion by 2026. The sector is becoming increasingly competitive with players like Blinkit, Zepto, Dunzo, and Swiggy Instamart all vying for dominance, offering ultra-fast deliveries in under 15 minutes. With Biswas at the helm, Flipkart’s Minutes enters the fray, attempting to carve a space in an already crowded market. Both Flipkart and Biswas did not respond to queries at the time of publication.
