An Indian entrepreneur is earning widespread praise on social media after granting a month-long paid leave to an employee who needed time off to care for her ailing mother—without attaching any conditions.

The story was shared by Divye Agarwal, co-founder of Bingelabs, in a post on LinkedIn. Agarwal recounted how an employee requested a month off last year after her mother fell seriously ill and required full-time care.
He said the employee initially tried to explain how she could remain available in the evenings or manage calls remotely. Instead, the leadership team decided to give her extended paid leave with no terms attached.
“She looked surprised. Like she was expecting conditions. There weren’t any,” Agarwal wrote, adding that while two client projects were delayed and work had to be reshuffled, the team accepted the short-term inconvenience.

According to Agarwal, when the employee returned to work, she delivered some of the best output the company had seen all year. He emphasised that her performance was not driven by guilt or obligation.
“I don’t think it was because she felt she owed us. I think it was because she stopped wondering if we meant it when we said we’d support her,” he wrote.
