London: Lindt & Sprüngli has launched a 100% cocoa dark chocolate bar in the UK, expanding its Excellence range as interest in premium, high-cocoa chocolate continues to grow.

The new bar represents the highest cocoa content in Lindt’s Excellence portfolio, which also includes 70%, 78%, 85%, 90% and 99% varieties. The company said the new product responds to an increasing desire among consumers for chocolate with higher cocoa content.

A bold new addition to the range

According to Lindt master chocolatier Miquetta de Castro, the 100% Cocoa Dark Chocolate Bar combines high-quality cocoa with the brand’s dark chocolate craftsmanship to offer a richer and bolder taste.

The launch strengthens Lindt’s presence in the premium dark chocolate segment, where consumer interest and competition are increasing. While ultra-high cocoa chocolate remains a niche category, the company sees potential for further growth as shoppers show interest in craftsmanship, authenticity and premium products.

Lindt changes its cocoa sourcing

The chocolate maker has also announced a significant change to its cocoa supply chain. From this year, all Lindt & Sprüngli cocoa will be sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified suppliers.

The move comes as confectionery companies face growing expectations to demonstrate progress on environmental and social commitments. It also coincides with continuing volatility in global cocoa markets, driven partly by poor harvests in major producing countries.

High-cocoa products can help brands strengthen their premium positioning and support higher prices, although manufacturers remain exposed to fluctuations in cocoa costs.

The launch also reflects a wider split in the chocolate market, with some consumers seeking affordable products while others continue to pay more for quality, provenance and sustainability
