Mother’s Day celebrations this year led to a major spike in food delivery and dining-out spending across India, with Swiggy reporting sharp growth in cake orders and premium restaurant bookings.

According to company data, food delivery orders on May 10 rose by 26.24% compared to the previous year, reflecting how occasions such as Mother’s Day are increasingly becoming major spending events for Indian consumers.

Cake orders dominate celebrations

Swiggy said cake deliveries emerged as the biggest demand driver during the celebrations.

The platform reportedly delivered an average of 13,039 cakes every hour across the country, with peak demand recorded between 7 pm and 8 pm when nearly 30,000 cake orders were placed.

At 7:49 pm alone, the company handled 636 cake orders within a single minute.

Bengaluru and Mumbai together accounted for nearly 60,000 cake deliveries, while tier-2 cities such as Patna and Dehradun also recorded strong order volumes.

One customer in Dindigul reportedly ordered 15 honey cakes, while another in Patna purchased eight baked cheesecakes.

Premium dining sees major growth

The sharpest increase was recorded in restaurant bookings through Swiggy Dineout.

The company said fine-dining reservations rose by 71.8% compared to last year, while overall Dineout bookings increased by 30.1%.

Bengaluru recorded the highest number of diners nationally, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad.

Among emerging markets, Ahmedabad reported the highest restaurant traffic, ahead of Jaipur and Chandigarh.

High-value dining bills grab attention

The celebrations also saw several high-value restaurant bills.

A Bengaluru customer reportedly spent Rs 1.12 lakh through Swiggy Dineout, making it the platform’s highest single bill on Mother’s Day.

Another diner in Varanasi spent more than Rs 1.06 lakh on a single restaurant booking.

Swiggy said customers collectively saved over Rs 6.9 crore through Dineout offers and discounts during the celebrations.
