A simple act of dignity by a delivery partner has struck a chord on social media, after a Bengaluru resident shared a heartwarming encounter with a Swiggy delivery executive who declined a tip and instead asked for a good rating.
The incident was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Vineeth K, who recounted how a Swiggy Instamart delivery executive named Ajay arrived at his doorstep with his young child seated on the bike.
‘He just wanted a good rating’
Vineeth wrote that while interacting with the delivery partner, he noticed the child and asked about it. Ajay calmly explained that it was his child accompanying him during deliveries. Moved by the sight and the man’s dedication, Vineeth attempted to offer a tip, as he usually does directly.
However, Ajay politely refused. Instead of accepting money, he requested Vineeth to give him a good rating on the app.
“Unfortunately, there’s no option to tip after delivery on the Swiggy app. Can someone help me?” Vineeth asked in his post, tagging the company and seeking advice from fellow users.
Respecting dignity over charity
In the replies, Vineeth later shared that he contacted Swiggy and was informed that post-delivery tipping was not currently supported. He then turned to social media users for suggestions. Many advised him not to insist, noting that Ajay’s refusal may have stemmed from self-respect.
Reflecting on the responses, Vineeth wrote in a follow-up post that he decided not to push the tip. “Some thoughtful responses here gave me a fresh perspective. I won’t push the tip since he clearly declined. Maybe it was my fatherly instinct kicking in, especially after seeing the child on the bike,” he said.
Social media reacts
The post quickly gained traction, crossing 2.8 lakh views, with users praising both Vineeth’s empathy and Ajay’s dignity. Several users highlighted the need for a post-delivery tipping option, arguing that service quality can only be judged after delivery.
Others offered a more philosophical take. “Keep him in your prayers. The blessings from above is the best tip,” one user commented. Another wrote that respecting a worker’s choice is just as important as generosity.
A quiet reminder
The incident has resonated widely as a reminder that not all acts of kindness involve money. Sometimes, recognition, respect and a simple good rating mean more than a cash tip—especially to those who take pride in their work despite personal hardships.
