Located at the Phoenix Mall of Asia, Ishaara has gained attention for its unique concept where the staff communicate primarily through sign language. The restaurant’s name itself reflects this idea—‘Ishaara’ in Hindi translates to gesture, symbolising communication beyond spoken words.

From the moment guests enter the restaurant, they are welcomed by a team of staff members who are speech and hearing impaired. Despite these challenges, their warm smiles and expressive gestures create an inviting and memorable dining experience.

Empowering specially-abled staff
The restaurant was founded by Prashant Issar, who believes employing people with disabilities should not be seen as charity but as a meaningful opportunity for empowerment.
One example is Thirtharaj, a staff member from Kolkata who once believed finding employment would be difficult because of his speech and hearing impairment. At Ishaara, he received hospitality training and support, eventually becoming a valued member of the team.

A thoughtfully designed dining experience
Beyond its social mission, Ishaara also stands out for its ambience and menu. The interiors feature tropical elements such as indoor plants, teak wood accents and handcrafted terrazzo flooring, creating a calm and welcoming space.
The restaurant’s logo represents the sign for “smile”, reinforcing the theme of communication through gestures. Even the menu incorporates sign language illustrations to help guests interact easily with staff.
